Volkswagen unveils the New Transporter
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has released the first photos of the new Transporter. This seventh-generation model boasts significant improvements in space, payload, towing capacity, efficiency, and functionality. While maintaining its distinctive design, the new Transporter is ready for a new era with advanced features and state-of-the-art technology.
Variants and Features
The new Transporter comes in three variants: Kombi, panel van, and dropside, along with the Caravelle for passenger transport. It offers modern turbodiesel, plug-in hybrid, and electric drive systems, with optional all-wheel drive. Volkswagen's lineup now includes the Transporter, Caravelle, ID. Buzz, ID. Buzz Cargo, Multivan, and the new California.
Model Range
- Panel Van: Ideal for goods transport.
- Panel Van Plus: Combines goods and passenger transport.
- Kombi: Designed for passenger transport.
- Double Cab: Platform body with a long wheelbase.
The Kombi and panel van are available with high roofs and extended wheelbases. The Caravelle, perfect for commercial passenger transport, comes in entry-level, medium Life, and top-tier Style versions, with an optional extended wheelbase. The robust PanAmericana model is available based on the Transporter and Caravelle.
New Drive Systems
The new Transporter and Caravelle offer an expanded range of drive systems:
- Turbodiesel (TDI): Available in 81kW (110 PS), 110kW (150 PS), and 125kW (170 PS) options.
- Plug-in Hybrid (eHybrid): 171kW (232 PS).
- Electric Drives: Outputs of 100kW (136 PS), 160kW (218 PS), and 210kW (286 PS) with a 64kWh battery. An urban delivery electric version with reduced power is also planned.
The TDI and eHybrid models come with front-wheel drive, with optional 4MOTION all-wheel drive for the TDI versions from 110kW. Electric models have rear-wheel drive, with an all-wheel drive version planned. The 125kW TDI includes an eight-speed automatic gearbox, also optional for the 110kW TDI. The plug-in hybrid and electric models come with an automatic gearbox.
Detailed Features
- Design: Keyless start, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13-inch infotainment display, multifunction steering wheel, and a space-saving steering column selector lever in automatic versions.
- Usability: The new Transporter is larger, with increased length, width, and wheelbase, offering more load capacity and better passenger accommodation. It features various power sources, including USB and 230V sockets.
- Payload and Towing: Despite its size, the new Transporter fits into standard multi-storey car parks and has a turning circle of 11.8 meters. It can carry up to 1.33 tonnes and tow up to 2.8 tonnes.
Enhanced Standard Equipment
The new Transporter models come with expanded standard equipment:
- LED headlights and tail light clusters
- Electronic parking brake with Auto Hold
- 12-inch digital instruments (Digital Cockpit)
- Infotainment system with DAB+, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, online services, and a 13-inch touchscreen
- Multifunction steering wheel
- Keyless Start system
- Rain sensor, Lane Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Dynamic Road Sign Display
The panel van now includes a standard partition, and the Kombi features windows in the rear, three individual seats in the second row, and an enhanced audio system.
