Nissan Qashqai With E-Power Wins Best Powertrain Accolade at News UK Motor Awards 2024
The Nissan Qashqai with e-POWER has been named one of the best new cars of the year by The Sunday Times, The Sun, and driving.co.uk in the News UK Motor Awards 2024.
This British-built SUV stands out thanks to its clever e-POWER technology, offering a unique driving experience without the need to recharge.
Nissan's Qashqai continues to lead its class with advanced design, tech, safety, and equipment updates. Since its launch in 2022, over 140,000 Qashqai e-POWER vehicles have been sold, with drivers praising its ‘electric drive’ feel.
Rob Gill, The Sun's Motors Editor, said: "We can't get enough of them. Qashqai is the car that started it all and now the clever e-POWER system moves the game on even further. It has all the advantages of an electric car without the not-so-good bits like recharging with a plug. The petrol engine charges the battery and electric motor drives the wheels. We averaged 46mpg over 700 miles, which is mighty impressive for a family SUV, plus it's designed, engineered and made in Britain."
The e-POWER system differs from traditional hybrids because the wheels are always driven by an electric motor, giving drivers an EV-like feel without plugging in. The petrol engine only generates electricity, sent to either the motor, the battery, or both, depending on the driving scenario. This ensures smooth and efficient performance without any mismatch between engine noise and speed.
Diana Torres, Managing Director of Nissan GB, said: "We couldn't be more thrilled that the new Qashqai, powered by Nissan's unique e-POWER technology, beats hybrid rivals in a highly competitive class at the News UK Motor Awards 2024. It means a huge amount to be selected for recognition by some of the UK's most popular publications and their motoring experts."
Nissan created the crossover segment with the launch of the Qashqai in 2007, and the introduction of e-POWER in 2022 was a major milestone for the model.
